IRCC updates Language-Testing requirements for PNP applications

On Some Significant Updates An Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will be streamlining the language testing criteria for applicants to the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

In which a  significant improvement. This important modification intends to make the application process easier for PNP candidates—especially those who are not applying via the Express Entry system.

PNP applicants previously required mandatory language testing across all entry streams. Under updated program delivery instructions, non-Express Entry PNP applicants are now exempt from this requirement. It’s important to note that while non-Express Entry PNP applicants are exempt from language testing, candidates nominated under an Express Entry stream must still fulfil this requirement. Language proficiency scores obtained from recognized organizations such as:

  •  CELPIP
  •  PTE
  •  TEF Canada  
  •  TCF Canada remains valid for Express Entry applicants.

Recognized language-testing organizations

To be consider valid, the applicant’s language test results must be from one of the approve tests:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS General Training)
  • Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP-General)
  • PTE Core
  • Test d’évaluation de français pour le Canada (TEF Canada) to test proficiency in French
  • Test de connaissance du français pour le Canada (TCF Canada) to test proficiency in French

For the Federal Skill Worker Program, the minimum level of English Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 7 is consider. For the Canadian Experience Class, the minimum level for all four language abilities is CLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1 and CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3.

 These scores play a crucial role in assessing an applicant’s eligibility and determining their suitability for Canadian immigration.
