Permanent residence fees increase in 2024

Starting from  April 30, 2024, the Canadian government is raising the application fees for all permanent residents. IN which  Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced the new list of fees for permanent residence. 

The fee hike affects the permit holder, family, humanitarian, and economic classes. If an individual intends to file for permanent residence on or after April 30, they should review the list of affected programs and fee changes. Permanent residence application fees increase every 2 years to keep up with inflation.

Right of permanent residence fee for Principal applicant and accompanying spouse or common-law partner is being increased from $515 to $575 from April 30. 2024.

for the Principal applicant & Accompanying spouse or common-law partner, the fee is being increased from $850 to $950. For an Accompanying dependent child, the increase is from $230 to $260.

How to pay additional fees

If you received instructions from us asking you to pay additional fees, you should follow these steps:

  1. Calculate the total fee difference you need to pay.
    • The payable difference is the difference between the old fee and the new fee. You can find the amounts in the payable difference column in the table below.
    • For example, for an economic immigration (including Express Entry) application, the payable difference for you, your spouse or partner and 1 dependent child (including the right of permanent residence fee) would be CAN$350.
      • The right of permanent residence fee payable difference for the principal applicant and accompanying spouse or partner is $60 each.
      • The processing fee payable difference for the principal applicant and accompanying spouse or partner is $100 each.
      • The processing fee payable difference for a dependent child is $30.
  2. Go to the Make an additional payment or pay other fees page in the ePayment portal.
  3. Under Quantity, enter the payable difference amount.
    • You’ll get 1 receipt for each payment. You can pay as a single payment or repeat this step to make multiple payments.
  4. Submit the receipt(s) to IRCC by following the instructions in the request that we sent you asking you to pay additional fees.
